Unemployment October 27, 2009

I heard about the increasing of unemployment rate in Brunei Darussalam.

I wouldn’t comment much on this topic, but I will tell you part of my bahas (malay debate) topic – which I accidentally threw my debate papers on this topic when I was organizing my room.

Side note: I miss debating! I miss my old debate team members – Haimi, Zalina, Mira, Niza, Shaima. I was a school debater since Form 1 – which was a very exciting, fun experience. Had a year break when I was in Form 4 and started debating again this year with new members – Zulhelmi, Ariffah, Nadiah, Syiqah, Umi. I’ve never been the first/main debater – not until this year. Being the first debater was quite a pain in the ass.

I don’t quite remember what was the topic, it sounded something like this “Buruh asing lebih banyak mendatangkan keburukan daripada kebaikan” and we disagreed on the topic.

Basically, we agreed that foreign workers give us more advantages then disadvantages. Buruh doesn’t only mean those contractors, but also teachers or anyone. You know, different types of buruh.

The thing I want to say is.. SOME unemployed locals are too choosy in choosing their jobs. Of course, if you have Diploma, Master or Degree, you wouldn’t want to end up being something lower than what you are qualified to be. This would be my “other” perspective view.

And of course, everyone wants to work with Government than private sectors – which I still have no idea why. From what I heard, this month itself, the-one-who-manage-those-job-thingy receives quite a number of applications, to be specific 300, I think.

In our debate topic, we mentioned that our country has more foreign workers because the locals are quite demanding. Unless, we send back the foreign workers and let our local unemployed people take over their jobs – which I think is quite a “easy to say, but difficult to work out” thing.

In my school itself has more foreign workers than the locals.

However, I am glad that the government is trying their best to try to solve this problem. And yes, I am proud to be a Bruneian!

Tell me what you think about The increasing of Unemployment Rate in Brunei.
